Initial Blog Monetization

September 2, 2007 |

OK, I still have full intentions of making this a somewhat technical blog, currently working on a fix for some publishing issues in Visual Studio, but anyone who knows me knows that I am easily distracted when it comes to new technologies and in this case I’m to try to make some cash so who can blame me.

Well onto my current distraction, as part of setting up my blog I first spent some time looking at WordPress plug-ins then I spent some time looking at some simple ways to monetize my blog which are not intrusive to anyone whom is reading and might add some value to my posts.

As part of my browsing on some other developer blogs I hit AuctionAds (see right bar) at which allows you to select ad formats, campaigns and colors ala Google Adsense. Then select a keyword (anti-adssense) and with their code snippet you can display eBay auctions related to that keyword on your site then if a visitor clicks your auction display and wins you receive referral commision for a percentage of the winning bid. Picture selling an island via you blog - ya makes me smile too.

Ebay recently honoured AuctionAds with the “eBay Most Innovative Application-Buyer” award. This was one of Ebay’s Star Developer Awards given out at their annual developer’s conference. Props go out to them and I have added AuctionAds to my “I wish I thought of that first” list.

Another monetizing tool which I think adds value is talkr which intrigued me first when I was working on AfterVote, and plan to integrate into whenever I can figure out a way to have the results in a pseudo-feed which is currently a requirement for talkr.

I will have more methods to make some coin shortly. Stay tuned.
