Windows Live Writer for Wordpress
September 14, 2007 |
I was looking into an offline editing tool for Wordpress as I find writing in the online editor isn’t productive for me and have traveled at fair bit recently it made sense to look into a solid offline solution. The industry standard in this space for WP seems to be Blogjet so I was about to purchase it when I fired up one last search on Aftervote to see what other solutions were available or if I was missing something when I found Windows Live Writer (currently beta). I’m a MS guy so I figured I would see what it was about.
Windows Live Writer seems very solid for a beta application. Installed with no problem, other than pushing some of the other live services - and ill take that for a free application. Configuration to my WP blog was simple and straight forward. The only hiccup I had the skin I am currently using did not load well into the editor for use - I simply moved back to the default (View - > Normal) and off to the races. I played with a few draft posts I have been working on and this is my first post made with Windows Live Writer - so far I’m please with the behavior/structure.
One of the main items which caught my eye was the fact that there is a plug-in system for Writer. So look for some plug-ins coming from here and if anyone has any that they would like to have or see made - I’m listening.
Some plug-ins I have started to use already are:
there are fair number available at the Windows Live Gallery for Writer Plugins
I’ll report back shortly with how I make out with Writer or if I have any gripes or additional love.
